Kapok fibres are naturally hollow, which gives them exceptional buoyancy.
That alone makes them interesting, but here's the catch, most anglers accidentally destroy the very thing that makes Kapok special.
When Kapok is dubbed onto thread the traditional way, tight, compressed and twisted hard, the hollow fibres become crushed. Once they're crushed, you've lost much of the advantage. The key to using kapok dubbing and getting the most out of it is to split your threat, add the kapok to the loop and twist back up.
This ensures the fibres don’t get as crushed and your dry flies will stay floating for longer!
